Developing and Maintaining New Routines

With summer ending, many of us will have to change our routines. Whether you’re back in school or not, the increased traffic will affect your daily life in some way or another. With the season changing, it’s a great time to change your routine and figure out how to improve it! Discover our favorite ways to develop and maintain a new routine below.

  1. Start small!

Don’t worry—you don’t need to revamp your entire routine all at once! If you start small, it’ll be even easier to keep up with. We suggest adding one new thing every few weeks to ensure it sticks.

2. Get an accountability buddy.

Everything is better with a buddy! If you find a friend who wants to add a similar habit, ask them to be an accountability buddy. Even better, if the new habit you want to add is something you can do together, plan to do it together or schedule regular progress check-ins!

3. Use the “1% better every day” mentality.

Remember this: Drastic changes don’t happen overnight. But if you promise yourself that you’ll just be 1% better tomorrow, eventually, all those little things will add up! If you make it a point to work on your goals a little bit every day, you’ll reduce the risk of feeling burnt out.

4. Download an app!

There are so many apps out there nowadays, but trust us, if you’re the type of person who needs to gamify things to get them done, an app can help a lot. Some of our favorites are Calm, Finch, and Happify!
5. Remember to give yourself grace.

Life is tough, but you’re even tougher! It’s normal to have unproductive moments. If you fall off track, remember that you’re only human and that tomorrow is a new day. You got this!
